I spent last Sunday in a warehouse/event space in the Mission District in San Francisco, serving as a judge for an event called The Cheesemonger Invitational. This is a competition designed to showcase and test the skills and talent required to be a cheesemonger- it achieves this and has one tremendous side benefit...it reacquainted everyone in attendance with the live-wires in our industry that have recently discovered that cheese is their passion.
Watching thirty young bloods strut their skills- from precision cheese cuts to perfect pairings- reminded me how much cheese has to offer, how much I love it, AND of the immense pleasure it is to witness someone fully self-expressed, doing something they love.
In short- I got to watch a whole herd of cheese geeks dork out as hard as their curdy little hearts dreamed. And if that weren't enough, I also got to see them be celebrated for their willingness to really go there.
Over the next few weeks, we've got a handful of events at Cyril's where you will have the opportunity to watch people do the thing that absolutely lights them up. Don't miss them.
